She has for at least the past two months been dealing with this horrible lower back pain and getting chiropractic treatment for it. Never has it entered her mind that she was going to be put on bed rest and have to stop working out. "I wouldn't know what to do" was her reply to the thought of having to miss a workout. Which goes to mention that she has not missed one scheduled session because of this lower back issue and has been doing modifications for most of the lower body movements. You could consider it being a super supplement to physical therapy and it's been eating her up not being able to compete with everyone on the score boards. I know for us it's comforting to know that she is recovering (slowly) from what is now known to be related to Piriformis Syndrome. It's a muscle that arises from the sacrum and passes through the sciatic foramen and attaches to the greater trochanter of the femur. It helps rotate the thigh laterally. When dealing with this injury, it's a tremendous lower back pain that shoots down your leg. Sometimes confused with sciatica. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Steph has been battling it out though and like we said before, on the road to recovery. This picture above is showing her finish the day two PT station in a time of 12:45. The PT is 30, 20, 10 Pullups, 1 max box jump (26"), and dumbell squats. What's intimidating is that she's the only one who's finishing the PT! It's an insane race and some serious mileage covered. This sign Wendy's holding reads 138.3 miles down and we think her and a team of 11 (which included Ronna) had to finish 200 miles. The good news is that she's not still running but actually made it in for her workout just a couple of days after. Here's what she had to say:&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;em&gt;[here's a pic of me (and my biker who escorted me through corn fields in pitch black at 5am) after my last leg of the race..... I ran 6.8miles at 8am on Friday morning, 4.2 miles at 9pm Friday night and then 7.9 miles on Saturday at 5:30am..... the running was fine (thanks to Plumbline!) but the lack of sleep was awful!  And, thanks to Plumbline again, everyone was walking around all stiff after and Ronna and I were FINE!!! Anyone who wants to maximize their workouts will want to take this class. It's a requirement for Plumbline Trainer's but will help build a foundation for all general fitness enthusiast. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color:#6600cc;"&gt;Q:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; What if I didn't take the class? &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="color:#6600cc;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;A:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt; Well, again it's a requirement for our program but if you didn't take the class you would lose significantly... In exercise comprehension, wasted movement patterns, increase your risk of injury while working out and worst, spending more time working out than you actually have. Most people who take the class come out with a better understanding of exercise preparedness as well as the concept of moving through a workout efficiently. It only makes sense when you have fitness goals that you want to achieve them in the smallest amount of time. One more question and then I have to get back to those who have actually made that commitment to get in shape!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color:#6600cc;"&gt;Q:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; What's the difference between this process (orientation) vs. let's say, another strategy or concept? &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="color:#6600cc;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;A:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt; First of all, we don't claim to have all the answers or even the best strategy. What we do rely on is program consistency. We have found that our method has given our clients more return for optimizing results. In the end it boils down to, "Did I get results?" and you answer this question with a question: "How efficient are you during your workouts?" If I can get you to move quicker and finish faster with limited mistakes, as in bad form or technique, you're getting results! You're getting huge results! Weight loss, body fat, muscle mass, and any other misconception of physical fitness are obsolete to the one who can win the race. Because in essence, these people don't have weight management issues their issues are more on the lines of self-worth. Their trying to prove their ability to compete! You know with Ashton Kutcher setting up reality stages and getting different stars/people in uncomfortable situations. This stage is just to surprise them with what was only a plot to get them to act out in their worst moments. Well, we have our own version of Punk'd. It's when people are caught stuffing their face with pie or acting out in such that it's only necessary to catch them on camera. As you can see a perfect example above, Tim and Leslie have taken it upon themselves to get their portion of cake and ice cream. And maybe even a little more than fair share on Leslie's fork. You two have been Punk'd! Above you'll see the trophy that he brought home after withstanding the demands nature threw at him for 10 days and nights in Alaska's best freezing rain, snow, rolling boulders... You name it and we bet Kash had to endure it! At least after being through that kind of torture, he "Kashed" in on this Alaskan Mountain Goat. The guy that led Kash and a few others through this hunt had this to say about him;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;"Kevin Ash killed his goat on Oct. 11 and had to endure 2 night operations and packed out most of the 81lbs. of meat we took off his huge billy as per his request.  His goat will score over 52" B&amp;amp;C all-time and we suffered through lousy conditions to get some great photos. Kevin was one of the best conditioned hunters both physically and mentally I have ever had."&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pretty good for a first timer! When she started, correct us if we're wrong, June 07' she just had twins and wanted to get in shape fast... As most women would feel after having twins. She didn't have a back ground for lifting weights or any specific routine that she did prior to starting. She came in wanting a change and needless to say, she came to the right spot. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;At the time, her current trainer worked in Gold's Gym trying to recruit people into the program. She signed up for group training a couple times a week and totally committed her life to eating right and staying up with her workouts. [Pre-Jillian] That summer she also joined in the boot camps which begun doing camps in Waterford (her home town) because of her addiction to program. At the time she wouldn't even attempt to jump on a 20" plyo box. She would result to modifying that exercise because (you come up with your own reason why she didn't. Who knows?). &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Back to the group sessions, one of the exercises that we do is a bench press. As you should know, a great way to determine upper body strength. Well, Jaqui started with 45lbs. and maybe only completed 15 reps. Not too bad for someone who had no prior lifting experience. But just this last week, she completed 20reps (EASY!) with 65lbs. and jumped on a 26" high plyo box for her PR (personal record). Although they may look the same, group training is not the high intensity endurance training you receive from the boot camps. It's high intensity strength training! The big difference here is similar to the free weight area of a gym and the aerobic area. In the free weight area you have different weights your lifting and completing and then moving from one exercise to next. In the aerobic area you're either on a bike, treadmill, or stair climber in continuous motion for long periods of time. The two exercise systems compliment each other and have there own benefits when combined but you can't give them the same name. There totally separate... One of them is called strength training and the other aerobic exercise.&lt;br /&gt;In our program we try and are pursuing to have a complete balance (if there is) with each pathway of the phosphagen, anaerobic and aerobic energy systems. To do this, we have high power, high intensity, short to moderately short duration - type of exercises that yield to the demand of life threatening situations. In it's simplest form, we call it interval training. Just slightly leaning forward with your front knee. But we understand when you mix intensity into your program, your form will have to become second nature to the activity when the demand calls for relatively high output. Obviously, doing an exercise such as the "split jerk" will require an athletes full focus and concentration because of the skill level that is required. So, proper form, without question, is the most important element for safe and effective strength training. For this reason, it is only by necessity that we introduce form and technique into every exercise program, but do you stop there? No!! You have to be willing to raise the stakes! By this we mean, keep form and technique but also have relatively high intensity behind it. Relative to what? Your psychological and physical tolerance. You'll never reach full muscle contractile potential if you're overly concerned with losing your form during an exercise. Well, this guy has and will be making his first efforts next week. Lets meet this mountain goat hunter... This is Kevin. You won't believe where we found Kevin?! No! Not in the mountains but close enough. This is another Waterford guy! The place where Plumbline Training is spreading like nobodies business. He's actually Sherri's (also a recent new client to the Waterford boot camp) husband who had her first session last Friday and told her husband all about it. Well, the adventurer as Kevin is, he wanted to find out if he could handle the day 2 workout. And above we tried to sum it up by capturing him replay the vurping (vomit/burp) action that he said took place on his last run. We do have to give him credit though, he managed to finish the whole workout despite letting 4 other women finish before him.&lt;br /&gt;Back to the mountain goat hunting, this "sport" requires an extensive amount of energy and focus. Hunters are expected to be in reasonably top fitness shape to handle the 5 day, on foot travel from, in most cases, sea level to 3000 ft. with a 80lb pack. Kevin's taking a 10 day hunt! Sherry and Chris (far right). This was Sherry's first day and like most people who come into this program will find out that you're up against an inconspicuous giant. Come on, how hard can reverse grip rows (45#), jumping rope, swinging a kettle bell, squat w/ 20# dumbbells and running 400m be. OK, that sounds like a lot but when you look at it laid out, the workout looks like a piece of cake. Surely anyone can do each station for 1min and have a relatively good outcome... Right? Well, tell your body that when your lactate level increases and your cardio respiratory system is shutting down and at the same time your muscles fail to respond. Although this is a painful way to enter into a workout program, it's the only way to get serious long-term results. After your first time, like with most things in life that require your dedication, commitment, and unwillingness to give up, it gets to be a little easier to handle and you will eventually grow into your own shell. It's that time in between that you look back and you're instantly humbled and realize the reason and purpose for your life.&lt;br /&gt;As for Chris, you already met him&lt;span style="font-size:78%;"&gt;. Fat, on the other hand, does not. In fact, in the entire body, muscles are the main users of energy, as muscles need energy to maintain themselves every hour. The conclusion to this is simple, the more muscle a person has (lean body mass), the greater their basal metabolic rate will be.&lt;br /&gt;The moment that you tell any woman that the best way of losing body fat is to increase their percentage of muscles they all say the same thing with a look of total horror on their faces, "Ohh, no chance, I don't want to end up looking like those women bodybuilders who all look like men!". This is the biggest misconception that women have with regard to weight training. One of the most important hormones for muscle growth and strength development is testosterone. Although there are women who have higher levels, most women only have one tenth of the androgens ( male sex hormones ) that men have. On top of this, women also have much higher quantities of oestrogen ( female sex hormone ) than men, which interferes with muscle growth by increasing body fat. The conclusion to this is very simple. The things she's been able to over come during this time training with us is amazing. This is a pretty interesting story though and we have a few of them just like it but this one we were able to catch on camera.&lt;br /&gt;Melissa, in the past and up until now couldn't or wouldn't jump on the 20" plyo box because she says, "I'm nervous of catching the edge of the box and falling". OK! A lot of us can relate to this type of scenario right? Fear of failing at something? Well, let us tell you, if you never move past your fears, you will never truly understand how successful you can be. One of the enemies greatest strongholds against us is to bound us in fear. But you better believe that there is a way out!&lt;br /&gt;In this case, plyo box jump versus Melissa (who is more than capable of jumping on a 24" box). Again, Melissa has faced this opponent in the past and it consumed her with doubt and fear. Instead of accepting this in her life, she has put in the dedicated work and made it an objective to &lt;strong&gt;break&lt;/strong&gt; free. So today, after at least a year, she was willing to take that extra step to improving her workouts and from now on, her times... And she jumped on that 20" box. Not once but all of them to complete the set. It appeared that she could have done it all along but afraid to make that move. Congratulations Melissa! We're proud of you!&lt;br /&gt;In this short story, you could put anything in place of the"plyo box jump" in relation to your life and allow it to keep you in fear and despair. Or you can face it once and for all and take the necessary steps to overcoming it. The moral of this story is to be triumphant over your fears. Do them at your own discretion but know that you will never find out what lies behind the door if you don't turn the knob and walk through. We're just lucky that no one actually showed us their guts! Not really funny... Anyway, you are doing awesome but you still haven't made it through this first week. You still have tomorrow to get in your workout. It needs to be scheduled so that you won't make a tired excuse to miss it. Here, check it out:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ffcc00;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Sprint 10 - 100 meters or .06 miles on the treadmill. Times to make each sprint; men 30secs / women 40secs.&lt;br /&gt;Between sprints; 1min active recovery at which you should alternate recovery times with 10 pushups and 20 PSU's.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Make good choices this weekend as it will be the hardest week for you during this whole process. Why? Because you are going to be tempted to do some of your old habits. Remember how much you want to see change happen! Well, it's not going to just fall in your lap. You will have to be conscious of your actions and be willing to put in the work to get your stuff back. It's usually given to the Plumbline community for off days and when you're not able to make it to a session.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, this week will definitely qualify as one of those times and you can use it all five days if you'd like.
